Hi, I'm Farida.

As an Ayurveda coach, I guide you in your search for more balance and health. I do this based on the principles of Ayurveda and my own experience. I know what it feels like to be out of balance: constantly tired, sleeping badly, unexplained pain, binge eating, skin problems, emotional outbursts. In July 2018, I had pain in my shoulder for the umpteenth time, a swollen wrist and painful fingers. Against all signals, I was of course working as usual, but that day my manager insisted that I go to the GP to have it checked out. The same GP immediately sent me to the hospital to have blood drawn. That afternoon I received a call that I had to make an appointment with a rheumatologist immediately because high inflammation levels had been found in my blood.

A few weeks later I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis – an autoimmune disease where literally everything becomes inflamed. After months of denial, I couldn’t ignore it any longer.

A long road of hospital visits and heavy medication followed.

The pain eventually subsided but the side effects were not bad. I had constant stomach pain, itching all over my body and my hair fell out. When the rheumatologist told me at one point that I had no other choice and had to take medication for the rest of my life, something snapped.

I couldn't believe that this was it and went looking for an alternative. And that became Ayurveda💫

I went to an Ayurvedic therapist, started treatment with her and my life changed completely. Not immediately, because Ayurveda does not have quick fixes, but after a few months I slowly started to notice a change in my body.

I found this so special that I wanted to delve into the magic of Ayurveda. I couldn't stop and eventually I followed the entire training to become an Ayurvedic practitioner. The best choice I could make at that time!

I discovered that I had a lot of vata (air and ether elements) in my constitution, which explained why I hate the cold, but also why it is extra important for me to build routines into my days. I learned how to calm my busy mind with meditation and breathing exercises and I faithfully started every morning with my tongue scraper. Ayurveda slowly but surely became a more and more part of my life.

The most important thing, however, is that I have managed to get my rheumatism under control through an Ayurvedic lifestyle.

No more joint pain, my stomach ache is gone, I have more than enough energy and my hair has grown back completely.

I have learned how body, mind and soul work together and that a chronic illness is not something that 'suddenly arises'. It is a process of years and our body will regularly give signals when things are not going well. These signals start small, but will become increasingly stronger if you do not listen and take measures.

" If you listen to your body when it whispers, it never has to scream"

I now know my body well enough to recognize the signals when I haven't taken good care of myself. And I now also know what I can do to restore the balance. With simple adjustments in diet and lifestyle I can ensure that the balance returns and my body can heal itself.

I try to live as much as possible in a way that is good for me, but I am not perfect so that does not always work. I still enjoy cake, fries with mayo and peanut sauce and good coffee. But I have found my own balance in this... and that feels very good!

With AyurVita I want to pass on the Ayurvedic principles in a way that suits our modern life, without compromising the essence of Ayurveda. From my own experience I know how important it is to live in a way that suits you, but I also know how difficult it is to break old habits. By starting with small adjustments and noticing what this does for you, it will automatically become easier. Believe me. That's how it started for me too.

Love, Farida
